16th Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon

Exemplary individuals and nonprofit organizations were honored at the 16th Annual National Philanthropy Day luncheon. The Global Philanthropy Forum, the International Development Exchange, and the Northern California Grantmakers hosted a presentation by Betty Makoni, founder and director of the Girl-Child Network (Zimbabwe). Ms. Makoni discussed the importance of funding education and women's empowerment in Zimbabwe.

Global AIDS Convening

The Global Philanthropy Forum hosted a "Global AIDS Convening" in San Francisco to bring donor attention to the global dimension of the AIDS pandemic and to highlight opportunities for giving abroad. According to the United Nations, 40 million people worldwide live with HIV/AIDS. In 2001, three million people died as a result of the pandemic, making AIDS the fourth largest cause of death. Governments and major foundations around the world are coming together to fight this immediate crisis.

Tech Laureates Venture Network

Each year, 25 Tech Museum Awards Finalists are inducted into the Tech Laureates Venture Network. The Tech Museum Awards honor innovators from around the world who are applying technology to profoundly improve the human condition. Forum participants will take part in interactive breakout sessions and lunch meetings with these overseas innovators in the areas of education, equality, environment, health and economic development.
