Five Crises Facing the Next President: Cross-Sector Solutions

When the new U.S. President takes office in 2009, he and other world leaders will face a series of crises that governments cannot solve alone:

  • Poverty—including new poverty—at home and abroad,
  • The climate crisis,
  • Access to healthcare,
  • Education for a globalized world, and
  • Averting state failure in the wake of conflict.

Strategic philanthropy, private enterprise and the civic sector all have a role to play. At the 8th Annual Global Philanthropy Forum Conference in Washington D.C., donors, social investors and emblematic agents of change from around the world will gather to strengthen and build the cross-sector alliances necessary to resolve these interwoven challenges.

While the size and scope of the problems are daunting, the collective potential of the philanthropic public and private sectors to solve them is vast. Innovation and collaboration are the hallmarks of the GPF community, which is ever strategic in its course.
