Bara Alaya is a senior private equity expert with the Souk At-tanmia initiative in the African Development Bank (AfDB). Souk At-tanmia is an innovative partnership in Tunisia (gathering 18 national and international public and private partners) that aims to foster entrepreneurship and job creation, 61 projects have been created in 2013 during the pilot edition and currently around 90 projects are being created in 2015 for the second edition. Alaya is currently working with Souk to help it cope with the challenges of the transition from a “program approach” into a sustainable platform to foster entrepreneurship and job creation in North Africa.
Prior to joining AfDB, Alaya was the head of investment of the Tunisian sovereign wealth fund and has over 12 years of experience in investment banking and private equity in the MEA region. During his past tenures he successfully led over 50 transactions of varying nature and sectors (Infrastructure, SME’s, Holding companies, etc). Alaya is passionate about development entrepreneurship and value added creation in challenging environments; he regularly increased the potential IRR of the portfolios under its management by an average 6.5%.
Alaya holds a Doctoral degree with honors from the University of Carthage and a professional MSc in finance from the George Washington University.
