Dr. Deepmala Mahla is the Country Director for Mercy Corps Iraq; and prior to that she served as Country Director for Mercy Corps South Sudan. She has worked for over 18 years designing and implementing humanitarian and development programs in some of the most complex and fragile environments. She is a strong humanitarian voice advocating actively for better of most vulnerable communities. She has held senior leadership positions in Uganda, Yemen, UK, Indonesia and India while working with Marie Stopes International, Oxfam GB, CARE USA, International Center for Research on Women, International HIV/AIDS Alliance and UNICEF.
Mahla’s programming experience ranges from refugee and IDP assistance, food security, livelihoods, family and community health, social cohesion and conflict management, water, sanitation and hygiene, social marketing and franchising. She completed her doctorate in the Reproductive Health of Women in rural Rajasthan, India and her home country is India.
