Douglas Hoernle is the founding director of Rethink Education and co-founder of the popular schools communication application Bambisa. He is a dynamic, fast-moving entrepreneur and creative thinker, and is committed to improving education across Africa using mobile technology.
His latest project, Rethink Education is a Cape Town-based education-centered technology company that focuses directly on the South African high school market in an effort to make current technology more useful in the schooling system. The technology’s online platform has been created to aid learning in South African high schools and can be used to complement the teaching of the core mathematics and science concepts, both in and out of the classroom. Rethink Education is is currently providing high school Maths and Science content to over 250 000 South African learners via their mobile phones.
Hoernle started his first business at the age of sixteen and was named an Allan Gray Fellow for his entrepreneurial and charity work throughout high school. He has spoken at education and technology conferences around Africa, Israel and the United States and have lectured on a number of topics including education, technology, marketing and entrepreneurship at top universities and colleges around South Africa.
