María Eugenia Garcés Campagna, a member of the Global Philanthropists Circle, is one of the founding members and Chair of the Board of Fundación Alvaralice, a family foundation based in Colombia working towards breaking the cycles of poverty and violence that plague local communities. Fundación Alvaralice supports programs in the areas of peace building, income generation and micro credit, healthcare, and education.
Current projects include initiatives that support the country’s peace and reconciliation process, such as the USAID/GDA funded project “Alliance for Restorative Justice, Coexistence and Peace”. In addition, Fundación Alvaralice supports healthcare programs that provide education and training for medical and ambulatory personnel dealing with traumatic brain injury patients, as well as programs that encourage business entrepreneurship.
In February 2005, the Foundation served as the lead organizer behind “The International
Symposium on Restorative Justice and Peace in Colombia”, which took place in Cali, Colombia. This event was attended by 1,500 people, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond M. Tutu.
Mrs. Garcés Campagna is also a board member of Fundación Corona, founded in 1963 by the Echavarría family. Fundación Corona focuses on education, health, entrepreneurial development, and community management.
