Vital Systems, Healthy Communities: Finding the Next Normal

With the world in flux and communities reeling in the wake of the pandemic, the role of philanthropy is crucial for building resilient systems to uphold equity and well-being for all. The 2021 Global Philanthropy Forum took an expansive look at health and the ways in which it directly affects the work of our global network. From identifying the essential elements required to maintain the health of individuals, to determining what is needed to create healthy communities and societies, participants had the opportunity to gain the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate this changing landscape.

While the pandemic has made our international interdependency abundantly clear, the crisis has also laid bare fault lines in our societies. The global community is witnessing firsthand vulnerable populations being disproportionately affected as systemic health and social inequities are exposed and exacerbated. Conversations concentrated on social determinants of health, innovative local solutions and commitments to actions that are equitable and just.

Setting our sights on the future, there is no better time to come together as a community of donors, social investors, and change-makers to share lessons learned and highlight successes from those who have achieved health equity on the individual, community, or societal level. We explored how these effective strategies can be applied closer to home and further brought to scale. In this critical moment as the world rebuilds, GPF focused on how philanthropy can take advantage of global insights, bringing together resources and best practices from across sectors to promote health equity.
